Anniversary

65 years ago on this exact date 74 men went into a coal mine and met their deaths. My condolences go to all the family members who've faced this anniversary and all of its difficult emotions so many times. I read the name of every victim out loud today. I hadn't meant it as a tribute at first. I was just trying to see how long it would have taken for the assistant coroner to read them all at the beginning of the inquest (at least 3 minutes), which must have been quite a long period of heart-thumping and breath-holding for everyone in the courtroom. But as I was standing in my kitchen, reading the names, I realized it was the anniversary of their last day of life. I wonder if their names are being read anywhere else but a suburban Massachusetts kitchen today?
