Welcome to my Blog
Hi Coal Mining and Nonfiction literature fans. This blog is about many things. The main focus, right now, is the narrative nonfiction book I'm writing about a Montana coal mine disaster that occurred in 1943 and that's still happening today, over and over again, as the coal mining industry continues to put profits before lives. Though I still have about 1/3 of the book to write, I'll keep you posted on its progress and on what's going on for today's coal miners.
This blog, and my brand new website, are also about my other projects.
My first book, Sleepless Days, was a memoir of my experience with postpartum depression. It was actually the first such memoir published in the US, though it didn't get nearly the press that subsequent books by celebrities received. Mine's better, though, trust me. I wrote it myself - no ghostwriter to fancy things up. You can still find a copy at Amazon or the library, but I may try to get it reissued soon.
My next project, after I finish the mine disaster book, will be about my relationship with one of my best friends, who happens to be an 88-year-old Holocaust survivor. His life started out badly, got much worse, and recently took another dive when he didn't have enough money to go to a nursing home. An underlying theme of this book will be a question I've had all my life: why be a Jew?
Besides writing and seething about the injustices of the world, I like to read fashion magazines, buy expensive make-up then barely use it, cook soup, eat sushi and beat on smelly pads in kickboxing class at my local YMCA.
Thanks for my web site design and its execution go to Tim Barmann, the best photographer in the entire state of Rhode Island. Possibly Massachusetts, too, and your home state. Besides being a journalist, he shoots events, so hire him if you want beautiful pictures. If you want stiff, awkward pictures, hire someone else. Find him at www.barmannphotography.com.
